MacBook Air series Spec & Config

This was supposed to be the latest generation of the MacBook Air series, but instead Apple decided to simply name it "MacBook." This 12-inch beauty with Retina display is the thinnest and lightest Mac product ever and is available with a gold colour option, just like it had been earlier rumoured.

The Design

Based on its look, the Apple MacBook could rightly be described as a class statement. The notebook is both ultra-thin and super light. It comes in at a thickness of just 13.1 millimetres, which is 24 percent slimmer than the thinnest Mac product before it - the 11-inch MacBook Air.

The computer is also lighter at only two pounds (907 grams), compared to the thin MacBook Air's 2.38 pounds. Flaunting a unibody design, the new MacBook has an aluminium chassis, which now comes in a gold finish, in addition to the regular silver and space grey colours.

The laptop is fitted with a redesigned, full-sized keyboard.

The Display

This ultra-thin computer sports a spectacular 12-inch Retina display. At a thickness of only 0.88 millimetres, the screen is the thinnest ever to be seen on a Mac. The display has a resolution of 2304 x 1440 pixels and pixel density close to the one on the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (226 pixels per inch).

Apple MacBook offers improved sharpness over the screen of the 11-inch MacBook Air, while having a 178-degree viewing angle and 16:10 aspect ratio.

The Performance

The all-new MacBook is powered by a dual-core Intel Core M processor, which optimizes power and performance for efficiency. The chip on the entry-level model of this notebook runs at a speed of 1.1GHz and up to 2.4GHz when using Turbo Boost.

A faster model runs at 1.2GHz and up to 2.6GHz on Turbo Boost. Graphics is handled by an Intel HD Graphics 5300 processor on the new Apple MacBook, which has RAM of 8GB. The computer will run on OS X Yosemite operating system.

Additional Information

The laptop is equipped with a lithium-polymer battery which Apple says will support 9 hours of wireless web browsing and 10 of iTunes movie playback. Onboard storage will range from 256GB to 512GB, depending on model.
