Tonto Dikeh Gets A Makeover

'Chewbacca bat,' stinky beetles and other bizarre species found in national park

In April a team of scientists embarked on the first comprehensive biodiversity study in Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. Pictured is the "Chewbacca bat" (Triaenops persicus) -- which was given its nickname because of its resemblance to the Star Wars character.

A furry bat named after a notorious Star Wars character, bombardier beetles that unleash explosive, foul-smelling gas to defend themselves, ants that can't walk or stand on flat surfaces and a mysterious cave-dwelling frog that runs instead of hopping.
These bizarre and wildly interesting creatures are just some of the 1,200 species of animals and plants that have been documented for the first time by scientists in the Gorongosa National Park, a stunning biodiversity haven in central Mozambique.
In mid-April, a team of 15 local and international scientists ventured into the park's spectacular rolling woodlands, deep gorges and riverine forests to conduct the first comprehensive biodiversity survey in a remote and largely unexplored area that was ravaged by years of war and poaching.

For about four weeks, the biologists were transformed into nature detectives surveying the Cheringoma Plateau, the part of the park that was least known biologically. Armed with rubber boots, headlamps and a huge variety of sophisticated equipment, they embarked on a painstaking mission to document life in the area and discover the rare, threatened and new-to-science species that live in it.

2 face charges in case of Canadian girl who hanged self after alleged rape

Canadian teenager Rehtaeh Parsons, who was allegedly gang-raped and bullied, has died, her family said. Parsons, 17, was hospitalized after she tried to hang herself on Thursday, April 4. The high school student from Halifax, Nova Scotia, was taken off life support three days later.

Two 18-year-old men face child pornography charges in connection with the case of a 17-year-old girl who hanged herself after she was allegedly gang-raped and bullied online, Canadian authorities said Thursday evening.
A police statement did not provide details, but the family of Rehtaeh Parsons has said she developed suicidal thoughts after she was sexually assaulted in 2011 and a picture of the incident was shared by phone and online.
The two men whose names were not released were arrested Thursday morning at their homes in Halifax, Nova Scotia, according to Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Halifax Regional Police.
One man faces two counts of distribution of child pornography, authorities said. The other is accused of one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of making child pornography.
The two, who were minors at the time of the incident, were released on a promise to appear August 15 in youth court.

SHOCKING NEWS: CNN's Doctor Sanjay Gupta Now Wants Weed Legalized

CNN's chief medical expert Sanjay Gupta announced Wednesday night that he has reversed his blanket opposition to marijuana use.

Speaking to Piers Morgan, Gupta said he had previously helped to "mislead" the American public about the effects of the drug.
"I have apologized for some of the earlier reporting because I think, you know, we've been terribly and systematically misled in this country for some time," he said. "And I did part of that misleading."
He also wrote an op-ed called "Why I Changed My Mind On Weed." In it, he said that, while he had formerly derided medical marijuana supporters, he had done research that had shown him how beneficial it could be:
I mistakenly believed the Drug Enforcement Agency listed marijuana as a schedule 1 substance because of sound scientific proof. Surely, they must have quality reasoning as to why marijuana is in the category of the most dangerous drugs that have "no accepted medicinal use and a high potential for abuse."
They didn't have the science to support that claim, and I now know that when it comes to marijuana neither of those things are true. It doesn't have a high potential for abuse, and there are very legitimate medical applications. In fact, sometimes marijuana is the only thing that works.

::Durella::‘D’banj didn’t steal my song.

A few weeks back, there was yet another controversial banter in the online sphere when blogs reported that Pop singer Durella had accused his long-time friend/colleague D’banj of ‘stealing’ his song. Durella has finally cleared the air, explaining that it was all not true.
It was reported that Durella had told anyone who cared to listen that he actually owned the song ‘Blame it on the money‘, and that D’banj took it from him and made another version with international rappers Big Sean and Snoop Dogg. To fuel things the more, Durella’s version (which he possibly recorded while under his former record label IKONIC Music) hit the streets.

[PICTURES] Rihanna Faces Lawsuit Allegations Over Grandma Burial For Refusing $150,000

Rihanna sent her grandma out in grand style … and now the funeral company has sent her a lawsuit.
Clara Brathwaite died in June, 2012. Her body was sent to Barbados for burial, and Rihanna wanted a party, complete with tents, multi-media large screens, huge exotic floral arrangements — the whole kit and caboodle.
But parties/funerals come at a price … and the company that threw grandma’s final shindig claims the grand total was more than $150,000, and Rihanna paid only about a quarter of that and refused to pay more.
The lawsuit claims Rihanna claimed the bill was exorbitant and she refused to pay the balance. The funeral home claims Rihanna’s demands came at a hefty price.
So far no comment from Rihanna’s camp
