LAGOS —  A customary court in Igando, Lagos, Thursday, dissolved a nine-year-old marriage between Emmaunel Adegbola and his wife, Olufunke, on grounds of infidelity by the woman.
Olufunke, however,  also accused her estranged husband of always raping her anytime she was not in the mood to make love.
The court President, Mr R. I. Adeyeri, said it appeared that the estranged couple was tired of the marriage and that efforts to reconcile both parties had failed.
“Since both parties consented to the dissolution of the marriage, the court has no choice than to dissolve the union.

No To Gay Diplomats

THE federal government has responded with near adequate conviction, the pressure by Western countries to impose the perverted culture of legalising homosexual lifestyles in Nigeria.
The two arms of the National Assembly have taken uncompromising stands, making a law prescribing a fourteen-year jail term for people caught, tried and sentenced for practising homosexual acts in Nigeria. Our President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, has also made it clear that he would align with the feelings of the Nigerian people and its supreme legislature in ensuring that the law is implemented.
We are, however, worried at the half-heartedness with which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is handling the matter. The Minister, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, while recently re-iterating Nigeria’s decision not to succumb to pressures from the West on this vexatious issue, however opened some windows of possibility and prospects for homosexuality in Nigeria.
First, he begged the West to be patient with Nigeria and allow this lifestyle to take root here and be accepted by the Nigerian people before it would be given a free rein. Second, he conceded that Nigeria would accept gay diplomats to serve in this country.
Our rejection of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) nonsense is total and unequivocal. It is rooted in our cultural, religious and social values as a people. It is taboo, abominable and repulsive. Therefore, we cannot afford to allow the moral fabric of our society to be so degraded by foreign cultures and pressures as to allow these evil acts to become acceptable here some time in the future.
We must also not allow countries that have accepted them to export their gay citizens to Nigeria and use their diplomatic cover to practise it here.
Since our people have chosen to shun gay lifestyle here, we must be uncompromising about it because the reasons adduced are cogent. Homosexualism is a virus that degrades the family and its values, corrupts human cohabitation and offends God. It eventually leads to social decline.
We are a country on the rise to our manifest destiny as Africa’s example to the world. We must get there with our values intact as every great society attempts to do.
The West will never allow a person who is a confirmed paedophile, for example, to work in their country even as a diplomat. If the West cannot be allowed to send such perverts to Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran, why should they be allowed here?
We say no to gay diplomats in Nigeria. Part of the screening we must conduct before accrediting diplomats to represent their countries here should include checking their sexuality record. We say no, and we mean no!

My Problem with Patience Jonathan – Amaechi

RIVERS State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has reacted to the ongoing controversy between him and the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, saying the  perceived misunder-standing arose out of his desire to provide a conducive learning environment for the children of Okrika, home town of the First Lady.
Amaechi said he has enormous respect for both President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience.
He spoke when clergymen of the Niger Delta Bishops’ Forum visited him in Government House, Port Harcourt on yesterday as part of their efforts to mediate in the political crisis in the state. The bishops had some weeks back visited the First Lady and Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike in Abuja as part of their efforts to resolve the issues

Amaechi said: “My Lords, I don’t know what to say, believe me, the only thing I want to say to you that I want to  put on record is that the wife of the President said that when my wife came to beg me, I pushed her away. I have never quarreled with my wife publicly, and I will never quarrel with my wife publicly.
So, there is no time I pushed my wife away and there is no time I will push my wife away. I want to also correct that so that nobody goes away with the impression that somebody told my wife ‘go and talk to your husband and she came but I pushed her away’. No. That day, I simply walked away into a bus and I sat down until they finished. So, all I did was go back to the bus to enable my wife perform her official function of someone who had received the wife of the President and escort her to all the places she wanted to go to.
“I hope that it (this mediation) will work. Niger Delta Monarchs came and no result came out of it and since you are men of God, I hope that  God will bless this one. I hope so because that is the same way I spoke to them(the monarchs) and they said, ‘watch out, it will work’, and they never returned because it never worked.

16 contestants enters MTN project fame season 6 academy

Students beg President Jonathan to wade into ASUU strike

Abakaliki – Students of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) on Friday begged President Gooodluck Jonathan to wade into the lingering ASUU and Federal Government crisis.
The students said that they looked up to Mr President to personally intervene in the face-off.
Mr Louis Onwe, a 300-level biochemistry student said: ‘’His intervention into the ongoing crisis will lead to timely resolution of the impasse and resumption of academic work.’’
He said that since the president enjoyed enormous goodwill with the union, it would listen to him if he intervened personally in the face-off.
“ASUU demands are quite germane as it will boost research and development of infrastructures in the universities,’’ Onwe said.
Mr Kelechukwu Anyigor, also a 300-level student of biochemistry, said they were optimistic that Jonathan’s intervention was needed to quickly resolve the strike.
“Our president enjoys tremendous goodwill because of his human rights records, and his attempt to reposition the country’s economy.
“It is our candid belief that if he personally intervenes in the matter, ASUU will listen to him in the interest of the students and the nation at large,’’ Anyigor said.
Mr Michael Otuu of the Department of Business Administration, called on the president to rise above politics and wade into the crisis in the interest of Nigerian students and university education.
According to him, the indefinite strike already in its fifth week is having a negative toll on the academic pursuit of university students in the country.
Otuu called on well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the federal government to accede to the demands of ASUU in the interest of industrial harmony in the system.
The National President of ASUU, Dr Isa Fagge, declared a nationwide indefinite strike on July 1 to protest the failure of the government to honour the 2009 agreements it reached with ASUU. (NAN

President Jonathan’s Convoy In Nasarawa Auto Crash, 14 Injured

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Shehu, has on Tuesday confirmed that the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan was involved in an auto crash the day before, leaving 14 persons injured.
According to the eyewitnesses, three confessional policemen, three mobile policemen, one member of the civil defence corps, as well as one official of the state branch of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and six civilians were “seriously injured”.
Mr Shehu claimed the state government had since released funds for the treatment of all the victims. He added that some of the victims have been discharged but those who have serious fracture were still at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia.
According to him, the accident happened when the vehicle of a prison officer ran into the convoy of the president and collided with one of the riders, who somersaulted and thereafter ran into the crowd.
“They are all responding to treatment at the hospital. Some have fractures on their legs.
“The prison officer sustained minor injury. He is still in police custody while investigation is ongoing,” he said.
It will be recalled that the president was in Lafia for the inauguration of the newly constructed Federal High Court and Ta’al Model School constructed by the present administration in the state.
He was represented by Vice-President Namadi Sambo.
