Nokia Lumia 625 packs 4G and 4.7-inch screen

Nokia has unveiled the Lumia 625, the largest Lumia Windows Phone yet, with a 4.7-inch screen and 4G.
The 625 sports a larger screen than any previous Lumia, making it a rival to big-screen Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One on size -- but very definitely not on price.
Under the big screen is a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB of RAM, and a 2,000mAh battery. There's 8GB of memory for your music and movies, snaps, and apps, and you can add a microSD memory card for up to 64GB of extra leg room.
Like previous Lumias, the 625 is built of sturdy plastic that doesn't feel flimsy or cheap, with no flex or rattle when shaken up. It's encased in interchangeable covers, which are tough to pry off -- you need to dig your fingernail right right in -- which at least means it's not coming off in your pocket.

Hackers posted a picture of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un portrayed as a pig on the country’s official flickr account today. The account and the official Uriminzokkiri Twitter account were apparently hacked today as tensions in the Korean Peninsula continued to rise.
The North’s Uriminzokkiri Twitter and Flickr accounts stopped sending out content typical of that posted by the regime in Pyongyang, such as photos of North’s leader Kim Jong Un meeting with military officials.

Instead, a picture posted today showed Kim’s face with a pig-like snout and a drawing of Mickey Mouse on his chest.
Underneath, text read: ‘Threatening world peace with ICBMs and Nuclear weapons/Wasting money while his people starve to death.’

13-year-old girl raped by more than a dozen illegal aliens

On Wednesday, police in Austin arrested two Mexican nationals who reportedly participated in the gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl on June 29.
The girl, a runaway, who lives at the Settlement Home for Children, was picked up by three Latino men and driven to the Avalon Arms apartments, where she was raped by a large group of men for several hours, according to police.
As many as 13 men took turns sexually assaulting the girl. Many cheered and filmed the sickening crime on their cell phones, according to court documents.
Juan Lozano Ortega, 25, and Edgar Gerardo Guzman Perez, 26, have been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. Both are currently being held in the Travis County Jail on immigration detainers.
The affidavit states the assault lasted until early into the morning of June 30, then the victim was driven to a nearby neighborhood and told to “find somewhere to go.”
Police say they were able to track Ortega and Perez from the phone call the girl made to her foster brother with their cell phone. She was able to make it back on her own to the settlement home.
The girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors determined her injuries were consistent with her allegations.
Austin police are currently searching for the other assailants.

ASUU STRIKE: NLC threatens to join

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, on Monday threatened to join the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in solidarity strike if the Federal Government fails to address the ASUU demands.

The NLC President, Abdulwaheed Omar, made the threat at the opening ceremony of the “2013 Rain School” in Uyo.
The university lecturers have been on strike for over three weeks, paralysing activities in public universities. The lecturers want the government to implement the agreements both parties have had since 2009.
“We call on the Federal Government to have meaningful dialogue with ASUU with a view to implementing the agreement. The State Governments should equally obey the law and pay minimum wage to teachers and the local government workers as well as the 27.5 per cent teacher’s enhanced salaries.
“Should these strikes persist, workers of Nigeria will not hesitate to join them in solidarity,” he stressed.
Mr. Omar said the modules of the Rain School were designed to train members of affiliate unions and state councils of the NLC.
“This is in order to equip them with necessary skills to empower and protect their rights at workplace,” he said$
He said that the theme of the 2013 Rain School, “Strengthening the trade Union for Defence of Workers Rights,” was imperative due to the obvious violation of workers’ rights in the workplace and in the larger society.
The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom NLC chapter, Unyime Usoro, commended the leadership of the congress for keeping to its promise to make Uyo the permanent host of the school.
“On our own part, we intend to ensure that the standards set five years ago that led to the permanent hosting right is not lowered. It is significant to note that the government of Akwa Ibom has graciously approved the building of the permanent block for Rain Schools here in Uyo to gather for the training needs of the union leaders across the nation,” he said.

From competent sources in Rivers State indicate that the reported death of the mother of the first lady of Nigeria may have been misreported.
According to the information received, the woman that died in the said car crash was not the mother of the first lady. But our source stated that the first lady called the woman mother.
The name of the woman who died in the crash is Sisi.

The remains of the deceased, who was travelling to neighboring Bayelsa, when the accident occurred was placed at Kpaima Mortuary, at Elechi Beach, Diobu, Port Harcourt, which is not far from Government House.
Unconfirmed sources said the accident happened at 6p.m. Monday. The political crisis in Rivers State may have prevented the state government from issuing an official statement on the passage of Sisi – the woman Patience Jonathan calls mother. Ordinarily, the commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari would have issued a statement on the death on behalf of the state government, but she was yet to do that at the time of this report.

iPhone screen recording app slips onto the App Store

An iPhone application that allows users to record their screens, including screen activity while using third-party apps on your phone, has managed to sneak onto the App Store.
xRec, which was published on Saturday and costs $1.99 on (iTunes), can record screen activity in its entirety. The software requires an active Internet connection to work and, according to tech site Giga (Google Translate), uses code from jailbreak app RecordMyScreen, which offers a similar feature set and user interface.
The app shows a red, pulsing bar at the top of the screen when it's recording, something that cannot be removed. Users also can record audio at various quality levels with the app. You can save the captured data to your camera roll or send it to other installed apps
